Welcome to the website of the UC Berkeley Chechen Language project directed by Professor Johanna Nichols with Ronald Sprouse as technical director. The project has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the Center for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies of UC Berkeley, and the Committee on Research of UC Berkeley. It began in 1999-2000 with a field methods course on Chechen co-taught by Johanna Nichols, Sharon Inkelas, and Andreas Kathol with Professor Arbi Vagapov of Chechen State University.
This site is still UNDER CONSTRUCTION but we hope the materials here will be useful to anyone with an interest in the Chechen language and culture.
