About the Berkeley Linguistics Society (BLS)

The Berkeley Linguistics Society is the second oldest graduate student-run linguistics society in the United States. Its primary purpose is to organize an annual conference (the Annual Meeting), which takes place the weekend before President's Day weekend.

All of the organization's operations are run by graduate students at the University of California, Berkeley, from publishing the Proceedings to selecting the Special and Parasession topics and putting on the Annual Meeting itself. After the successful close of the Annual Meeting, leadership and responsibility for the day-to-day running of BLS are shifted to the next year's second-year cohort, who comprise BLS' Executive Committee.
