Tagalog and the syntax of long-distance extraction
Norvin Richards, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
This talk will build on the approach to Tagalog "wh-agreement" developed in Rackowski and Richards (2005). I show that this approach offers an account of wh-agreement and of Huang's (1982) CED effects; we will also see that the approach combines with existing accounts of Person-Case effects to predict, correctly, that certain cases of extraction will require the extracted phrase to be 3rd person.
