The Arapaho Language: Documentation and Revitalization

Texts

As part of this project, we are recording, editing and translating two types of texts in Arapaho. These include:

Kroeber recorded texts in written form (there are no audio recordings). His notebooks are located at the National Anthropological Archives Museum Support Center in Suitland, MD (manuscript no. 2560a). These texts were recorded while Kroeber was researching his dissertation on Arapaho decorative art. They represent a variety of genres, including formal speeches, Nih'óó3oo stories, myths, legends and historical texts.

Conathan has been making audio recordings of Arapaho texts since 2004. These texts are a variety of genres, but emphasize personal narratives and conversation.

In addition to these texts, other published texts will be used to provide examples for the dictionary. These published texts include:
