I am a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. I work with Prof. Chu-Ren Huang at the Corpus and Computational Group. My PhD is in Linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley.
My research focuses on syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, particularly on how meanings and forms are paired in lexical and/or grammatical constructions and on the relations between synchronic variation and diachronic change. My current projects examine the semantic categories and conceptual structures encoded in languages from an experimental or a corpus/computational approach:
  • Metaphor detection in natural language processing techniques
  • Ontological structure encoded in the Chinese semantics-based orthography and its application in metaphor detection
  • Synaesthesia and their correspondent sensory modalities
  • The interface between quantifiers, scalar inferences, and prosody
  • Construction Grammar
  • Chinese pedagogy
My manuscripts can be found in my CV.
