Memory for Voices

This HIT is a study being performed by researchers in the UC Berkeley Department of Linguistics. The researchers who have requested your participation will not link your Amazon Worker ID to the data that you provide. There is a questionnaire at the end of the task, which you must complete in order to be compensated. See a screen shot of the questionnaire here.

In this study, you will be presented with English sentences spoken by different people. Listen closely and then judge whether you have heard this person earlier in the experiment. The answer for the first sentence you hear is "new" - this is the first time to hear this voice. From then on the voice may be a new person, or another sentence spoken by one of the earlier talkers. By the 130th audio file it will be pretty impossible to know for sure if the voice is new or old, but some voices stand out, and in any case give your best guess.

You enter your judgement by pressing either the "z" or the "m" keys on your keyboard.

Press the letter "z" if this is a person who you heard earlier on the list, and "m" if you think that no examples from this person have been played yet.

There will be about 130 sentences to judge.

Please do this experiment in one sitting, without taking any breaks.
