Optional extra hour on F 11:00-12:00 in 50 Dwinelle, as needed.
Content: Investigation of syntactic and semantic phenomena toward building a solid conceptual, analytical and empirical foundation for research in syntax/semantics. Emphasis on gaining familiarity with the central empirical phenomena, as well as core theoretical notions, methodology, and argumentation. The topics covered in Fall 2004 include phrase structure, argument structure, subcategorization, lexical entries, passive, infinitival constructions, and unbounded dependencies.
Format: Class room discussion based on weekly assignments.
