Chapter 10 - Performance Exercise D

Try saying this question with strict rhythmic beats in time.

What is the difference in rhythm between English and French?

Now try saying it with one "beat" per syllable - so "English" has two beats for example.

Look at the spectrograms (right click on the buttons). Are the beats in these recordings at equal time intervals? In other words, are the beats isochronous?

As you try to tap out beats to your syllable-timed version of the utterance, are your beats isochronus?

If you have a metronome, try speaking this utterance in stress-timed and syllable-timed versions in time to the metronome.
