Dates

The BLS Workshop on Phonological Representations will be held the weekend of February 7th-8th, 2020.

Venue

Conference: Dwinelle Hall, UC Berkeley.

Dwinelle Hall can be accessed via Frank Schlessinger Way or from Bancroft and Telegraph. From Frank Schlessinger Way, enter through the west entrances to access the Department of Linguistics (Level A). From Bancroft and Telegraph, enter campus through Sproul Plaza (MLK Student Union on your left and Sproul on your right), pass through Sather Gate, and enter Dwinelle Hall through the east entrance to access the Main Lobby (Level D). Follow the signs to the registration desk on level A (Department of Linguistics).

Accommodation

BLS is not entering into any agreements with particular hotels for the workshop. However, there are numerous AirBnB and hotel options in Berkeley:

Limited crash space will be available for undergraduate and graduate student attendees. Please indicate whether you would like crash space on the registration form, and we will contact you with further details.

Transport

San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Berkeley
  • Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
    Take an Antioch-bound (yellow line) train from SFO and transfer to the Richmond-bound (red line) train across the platform at the 19th St/Oakland station. BART runs on weekdays from 4AM to 12AM, on Saturday from 6AM to 12AM, and on Sunday from 8AM to 12AM. The Berkeley campus is located one block east of the Downtown Berkeley BART station. A one-way trip from SFO to Downtown Berkeley is $10.30.

    Bayporter Express Shuttle: Direct from SFO to Berkeley from $38 (shared ride).

Oakland International Airport (OAK) to Berkeley
  • Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART)
    Take the train from OAK to Coliseum (gray line) and transfer to the Richmond-bound (red line) train across the platform. BART runs on weekdays from 4AM to 12AM, on Saturday from 6AM to 12AM, and on Sunday from 8AM to 12AM. The Berkeley campus is located one block east of the Downtown Berkeley BART station. A one-way trip from OAK to Downtown Berkeley is $9.30.

Driving

From I-80/580 take the second Berkeley exit at University and head eastward (away from the bay and marina). Continue east on University for about 2 miles, then turn right onto Shattuck. Go 7 blocks and turn left onto Channing.

There are several commercial parking garages in the area about three to five blocks uphill:

  • Bowditch on the south side of Bancroft
  • Bancroft between Telegraph and Dana (next to the Student Union)
  • Channing or Durant between Dana and Telegraph
