We will discuss Stephen Anderson's (1971) response to "The case for case" entitled "On the role of deep structure in semantic interpretation" (Foundations of Language 7:387-396).

We will be reading Chuck Fillmore's classic paper "The case for case" (984 kb). Thanks Russell for the pdf!

We will be reading Jon Gajewski's paper "Neg-Raising and Polarity".

We will continue our discussion of metalinguistic negation in Chapter 6 of Horn's book.

We will be reading Chapter 6.1-6.4 of Larry Horn's "A natural history of negation". A photocopy is available in Maziar's box. We are still meeting at Hannah Haynie's house.

We will be reading Chapter 4 of Larry Horn's "A natural history of negation", a photocopy of which is in Maziar's box. Again, we will be meeting at Hannah Haynie's house.

We will be talking about Henry Davis' IJAL article entitled "On the syntax and semantics of negation in Salish" (2005, 71:1-51). We will be meeting exceptionally at Hannah Haynie's house.

We will discuss Mark Donohue's article "Negative grammatical functions in Skou" (2006, Language 82:383-398).

Joey Sabbagh will be giving a practice job talk. Pad Thai will be provided.

We will be having an organizational meeting at 5:30 to figure out the reading for the semester. The theme we agreed upon at the end of the fall was the syntax and semantics of negation.
