Sound Change in Interacting Human Systems
3rd Biennial Workshop on Sound Change
University of California, Berkeley, May 28-31, 2014

Lodging

The Workshop will be held in the conference center at the Clark Kerr Campus of University of California, Berkeley. This campus is adjacent to the main campus of the university and is a 1.4 mile walk, or a 15 minute bus ride, from the downtown Berkeley BART station and the amenities of bustling downtown Berkeley.

Our aim is to foster interaction both in the formal sessions of the workshop and in meals and down-time outside of sessions. Therefore, attendees are expected to stay in rooms at the Clark Kerr campus. These are comfortable and inexpensive rooms in a college residence hall. The rooms are arranged in suites with two or three bedrooms per suite and one bathroom shared among the suite-mates. The suites are gender-specific.

The total cost of room and meals at the conference center for the three day conference is $345 for a single occupancy room, and $270 for a double occupancy room (per participant).

In addition to conference facilities, the Kerr campus has a wonderful running track(or at least the view from the running track is wonderful), an outdoor pool, and tennis courts.

The deadline for making reservations is May 9, 2014.

Checking in

A clerk is on-duty at the housing check-in desk until 11pm each night. If you will arrive after 11pm, please let us know so we can alert the clerk to watch for you.

Arriving early/Staying late

Space at the conference center is reserved for conference participants for the nights of May 28-30. You may also stay on campus quite inexpensively in a residence hall before or after the conference dates. Early arrival dates are May 25-28, and stay over dates are May 31-June 2. The cost per night is $78 for single occupancy and $53 per night for double occupancy. This cost does not include meals.

All early and late departure requests are subject to availability. In all likelihood you will be able to stay in the same room before, during, and after the conference, but there remains some small possibility that you will have to move for your arriving early and/or staying late accommodations.

We make these reservations for you, so let us know your plans by May 9.

How to pay for your accommodations

We (the UC Berkeley, Department of Linguistics) are responsible to pay our conference service for your accommodations. You in turn are responsible to pay us. Regretably, we are also ill-equipped to take payment, so this is likely to be a bother for everyone, but especially our international guests. We apologize for the trouble.

Here is the trouble - we can only accept payment by check, money order, or cash. Participants coming from the US - please send your check to:

Sound Change Workshop
Department of Linguistics
1203 Dwinelle Hall
Berkeley, CA 94703

Make your check payable to: UC Regents

Or bring your payment with you when you check in. If you can send payment ahead of time that will make the check-in process run more smoothly.

Participants coming from outside of the US - you will probably have to bring a cash payment, unless you have a convenient way to get a money order, or bank draft, or cashier's check made out in dollars.
