	In the winter, in December (the bad month), the bears all go into dens.

[2]	púyava sú' kuníkrii ithéeshyaav.
	They stay inside all winter.

[3]	kári xás tá kunpíip" chími nanu'eeráriiv nupimúsan."
	Then people used to say, "Let’s go look at our dens!"

[4]	kári xás tá kunpimúsan.
	So they went to look at them.

[5]	kári xás tá kunpíip" chími vôonupuki."
	And they said, "Come out!"

[6]	púra fátaak.
	(The bear) was nowhere to be seen.

[7]	púyava vúra puxích tá kuníhyiv" chími vôonupuki."
	So they shouted loudly, ‘Come out!’

[8]	víriva púra fátaak vôonupuktihara.
	(The bear) He didn’t come out anywhere.

[9]	púyava tuvôonkaa pa'ávansa.
	So the man crawled in.

[10]	kári îikam yítha úkrii.
	And one stayed outside.

[11]	yanavéek utákviihriv.
	(The one who crawled in) saw (the bear) curled up.

[12]	púyava tóo yfúutrupuk pavírusar, îim tuvôonupuk.
	Then he pushed the bear outside, he came out.

[13]	púyava tóo pvôonupuk pa'áraar.
	The person came back outside.

[14]	púyava pa'îim ikrêen púyava tóo ykar pavírusar.
	And the one who stayed outside killed the bear.

[15]	púyava tá kunpiykáravar, eeráriivak kunithyúrurupuk.
	They finished killing it, they dragged it out of the den.

[16]	púyava íshyaav kunkupeeykárahitih.
	They killed it that way in the winter.

[17]	patá kuníthviish kári xás vúra athkúrikar patá kuníshfir pamúmaan.
	When they brought it in, (the bear) was fat when they skinned its hide.

[18]	púyava îikam áhkaam tá kuníkyav.
	So they made a big fire outdoors.

[19]	kári xás vaa áak tá kunpathríimkurih.
	And they spread (the hide) over the fire.

[20]	víri paathkúrit tóo thrîish.
	So the fat ran together.

[21]	kári xás tá kunithyúruripaa.
	Then they dragged it out of the fire.

[22]	xás kári vúra nîinamich tu'árihish.
	Then it became small.

[23]	kári xás tá kuntaxíshxish patóo msip.
	And they scraped it when it was cool.

[24]	kári xás vaa tá kunvupákpak.
	And they cut it up.

[25]	púyava vaa íshyaav kun'áamtih.
	And in the winter they ate it.

[26]	kimkuv.
	It was (called) kimkuv.
