Talk specifications
Talks are 20 minutes with 10 minutes of question-and-answer time. Presenters giving slideshows should come prepared with their own computers; if possible, presenters should also have a copy of their presentations on an external drive for backup. We will provide audiovisual equipment for slideshow presentations in all rooms used for presentations. Our audiovisual equipment has VGA ports; you should bring your own adapter if one is needed.
Presenters using handouts should make between 40 and 50 copies for distribution. Note that we cannot make copies of handouts; see the local information page for some copy shops in Berkeley.
Poster specifications
Posters should have a maximum size of 3 feet wide by 4 feet tall (about 0.9 meters wide by 1.2 meters tall) at the largest in order to fit into their allotted spaces. We will provide stands and mounting materials.
Note that we will not be printing posters; see the local information page for recommended printing shops in Berkeley.
Getting to and from Berkeley
The local rail transit system, BART, connects the UC Berkeley campus and both San Francisco International and Oakland International airports. To travel on BART you must purchase a ticket from one of the machines located in each station. Tickets are reusable and can be loaded with fare for multiple trips. Read on and use the Airport Connections Guide to plan your route.
From San Francisco Int'l (about 1 hour, $9.55 one-way):
Take the yellow line (destination Pittsburgh-Bay Point), which will be announced as traveling through San Francisco and the East Bay. Take this train to the 19th St. Oakland station and transfer to the red or orange line train across the platform (destination Richmond). Take that train to Downtown Berkeley and exit.
From Oakland Int'l (about 40 minutes, $8.60 one-way):
Take the monorail ("BART to OAK") to its only other stop, the Coliseum/Oakland Int'l station. From Coliseum board an orange-line train (destination Richmond). Take this to Downtown Berkeley and exit.
Leaving the Downtown Berkeley station through the main entrance will put you at the intersection of Shattuck and Center. To get to campus, cross Shattuck and continue along Center; you will pass the new BAM/PFA building if you are going in the right direction. Once you cross Oxford, you will be on campus.
If you have a very early or very late flight to catch, please check to ensure that BART will get you there on time. In particular, if you are leaving on a flight early Sunday morning (March 27), the first train does not leave Downtown Berkeley until 8:08 AM.
If you need to arrange other transportation to or from the airport, we suggest Bayporter Express or SuperShuttle.
Conference venue
All talks will take place in Dwinelle Hall on the UC Berkeley campus. To find Dwinelle on the larger campus, here is a campus map. For those visitors with slower internet connections, a condensed campus map with Dwinelle highlighted can be found here. Most of the rooms to be used (Dwinelle 145, 156, 160, 182, 183) are located on Level D, which you should enter here. Dwinelle 370 is located on the top floor (level F or G, depending on which elevator you take).
Please note that smoking is not allowed on the Berkeley campus, including all outdoor areas.
