[1] pa'arareekrívraam uum pu'á'hinvahara, yakún pa'íivhar ipshûunkinichas.
The Indian house was not high; you see, the boards were short.

[2] xás sú' u'íripkurihva.
And it was dug down into the ground.

[3] xás áachip ahíramhitih.
And there was a fireplace in the center.

[4] xás pa'iinâak íivhar uthiivárayvahitih.
And on the inside boards were placed around.

[5] xás pamukun'îirish uum vúra yuux.
And their floor was just earth.

[6] xás vuráakir u'íihya vaa káan iinâak.
And a ladder stood there inside.

[7] xás vaa káan kun'áhooti pa'îikam tá kunvôonupukahaak.
And they walked on that when they went outside.

[8] xás pa'íivhar uum ipshûunkinichas peekrívraam ukyâarahitih.
And the boards were short that the house was made with.

[9] peev'ávahkam ivharatírihshas uyaakóohitih.
And broad boards were put on the roof.

[10] xás pamuchivchákar káru uum ipshûunkinich.
And their door was low too.

[11] púxay vúra ihyáriheeshara patá îim kúuk tá kun'úumahaak, xás vúra tá kunvôonupuk.
They didn't stand up when they went outside, they just crawled out.


[12] xás ás uthíivahiti ivíthvaaykam.
And rocks were laid in front of the house.

[13] xás pa'iinâak ah'ávahkam usasípiithva taskanatunvêechas.
And on the inside, above the fire, little poles were stretched around.

[14] xás ukyâahiti pakáan kuniváxraahmathti pa'áama káru vúra fâat vúra pakuntâarahitih.
And they were made so that they dried fish there and whatever (else) they had.

[15] xás âapun vúra uum pootâayhiti pamukun'ásip káru vúra fâat vúra pakuntâarahiti pakunimnísheesh.
And on the floor were their cooking baskets and whatever else they had when they were going to cook.

[16] xás pa'ávansa vúra kích mukun'ikrívkir utâayhiti.
And only the men's seats were there.

[17] pa'asiktávaan uumkun vúra âapun pakun'áraarahitih.
The women sat on the ground.

[18] hâari pufíchvaas upathrívahitih, víriva káan pa'asiktávaansas kun'áraarahitih.
Sometimes a deerskin blanket was spread, and the women sat on that.

[19] xás payupsítanich uum thaxtúuyak vúra sú' úkrii.
And the baby was inside a baby-basket.

[20] xás kuníshtaakti hâari pamukit'íin.
And sometimes it was held by its grandmother.
